Gomel is what happens when a city builds its whole heart around one great park. The honey-coloured Rumyantsev–Paskevich Palace presides over 800 acres of old trees, swan ponds and river bluffs above the Sozh — and the city below moves at the pace of its riverside beaches. Getting there
Trains from Minsk take 3–4 hours. Gomel works as an overnight on the way to Pripyatsky National Park and Turaŭ.
Eat & sleep
Stay central near the park. Gomel's café scene is relaxed and cheap even by Belarusian standards — riverside terraces in summer are the move.
